February 2022

February - From the desk of our President
We are starting a new year for the Fishers of Men Fishing club. I am looking forward to a great year personally and for the club. Early in November I was sitting out in my deer stand and waiting for the sun to come up. As it rose in the morning the clouds came in over it. As much as I tried, the clouds would not let me see the sun or feel the warmth of its rays. I started thinking about our lives. We want to do the right thing, but the troubles of the day come in and we forget to spend time with God, to pray, or to read our Bible. Remember what Paul said in Romans 7:19: “For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do-This I keep on doing.” Even Paul struggled with doing the right thing. I would like to challenge each one of us, beginning with me, that we take this new year to deepen our relationship with Jesus. What can we do as a club to help deepen your relationship? I look forward to starting the new year with each of you at the January 6th meeting. Sam Anderson will be with us to give us more details about the MN Adult & Teen Challenge program and their fishing contest. It will be a great time.
Thank you
Tim Jewell, Club President

Tim opened the meeting with a word of prayer at 7:00
Vaughn’s devotion - Mark 1:35, John 3:30,
“And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, He departed and went out to a desolate place, and there He prayed .”
Mark 1:35 ESV
“He must increase, but I must decrease."”
John 3:30 ESV
The Blackburn’s goal in 2022 is the “Fruit of the Spirit” in their home.
We heard the story of Charles Schulz “Charlie Brown Christmas” and the not so hidden message of Linus and his blanket. When CBS wanted him to do a 30 minute cartoon he said he wanted to have a gospel message in the show. We have all seen the show.
“if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, became a minister.”
Colossians 1:23 ESV
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”
Colossians 3:16 ESV
“To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,”
Ephesians 3:8 ESV
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”
1 Peter 1:3-5 ESV
“But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—”
Ephesians 2:4-5 ESV
Closed our devotions with a word of prayer.
Tim introduced Sam Anderson from Adult & Teen Challenge of Minnesota.
Founded in 1958 by David Wilkerson who was the author of “The Cross and the Sitchblade”
There are facilities in Minneapolis, Duluth, Rochester, Brainerd and Buffalo. They are expanding in Alexandria and Mankato.
Teen Challenge is the largest provider in Minnesota.
They have short term and long term programs. Long term is 13 months.
They fished together last year in the Challenge. Their lunches got lost off the front of the boat on the way to the landing, their battery was dead and got a jump at the landing and then they lost all their minnows because they left the bucket over the side of the boat.
Despite all that, they had a great day together not catching any fish. Reminding us that a great day on the water has nothing to do with how many fish are caught.
